Celebrating Our First AI Trainers

Our three-day online training sessions featured incredible facilitators who demonstrated exceptional expertise in the topics covered. The sessions ranged from AI prompt engineering and leveraging AI technology for cybersecurity to the ethical use of AI. Participants also delved into understanding AI biases, building AI-powered chat models, training AI model with open-source documents, and addressing challenges encountered in the process. We also had Tshepo Tshabalala, Program Manager of JournalismAI at Polis, a think tank at the London School of Economics and Political Science, talk with participants about the ethical considerations and uses of AI in their work.

Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi is the founder of JournoTECH. She is a technologist, web builder and designer, app developer, researcher, and investigative journalist with nearly a decade of experience. Elfredah has reported extensively on oil pollution, deforestation, and environmental injustice in remote African communities, holding multinational corporations accountable for environmental degradation. She is also the founder of The Colonist Report UK and The Colonist Report Africa, independent investigative media organizations.

Ken Kiunga is a Google News Initiative Teaching Fellow. He trains journalists and journalism students across Africa on digital tools useful for finding, verifying and telling stories. He has over a decade of experience in broadcast, print and digital media. 

Yolanda D.Illouz brings her analysis and skills in digital forensics, OSINT, and economic intelligence to companies in France and Africa.  From shelter manager at the French Red Cross to cybersecurity engineer, Yolanda has made her atypical professional career a strength that makes her a true contributor to the popularisation of cybersecurity and today’s campaigns to promote this sector among Black women.
